How is my data protected against loss?

Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure designed for 99.999999999% (11 nines) annual durability. Each file is split into pieces and distributed across multiple drives and servers, so your data can still be recovered even if several drives fail. This protects your files against hardware failures and significantly reduces the risk of permanent data loss.

Why do downloads have an additional cost?

Many cloud storage providers offset their download egress costs through advertising, data collection, service bundling, and usage restrictions. To allow unlimited downloads (within your available balance) free of advertisements or data harvesting, we instead provide that cost upfront. For most average users the cost is insignificant (downloading a typical photo is fractions of a single cent), however it can get pricey if you intend on downloading large amounts of data very frequently.

How does payment work in Vault?

Rather than paying for set plans and ending up with excess storage you don't need but you're still paying for, you can choose exactly how much storage you want, and only pay for that amount each month. You can increase or decrease your capacity as needed. Each account has a wallet which you fill up with credits, and actions with a cost draw from this wallet.

How is my data secured?

We cannot see what you store in Vault. Files you upload are encrypted in your browser locally. If you have a Vulture account, your key is connected to your account and is stored encrypted. Your passphrase or recovery key can decrypt it, and we never see either.
